Confidence: It is Never Too Late to Expand to New Horizons

Sailing Confidence and self-esteem development has made so much difference in my life.  Today was an awesome day.  The weather was my definition of flawless.  As I sat by a large pond in the local Arboretum, one of my favorite aunts called.

She is a beautiful highly intelligent woman, who always stood out to me because she is so articulate.  As we talked, lo and behold she bought up the concept of the big fish in the small pond as something over the years she had thought about.

She is in her 70’s and she has always wanted to write a children’s book.  She obviously has a gift for connecting with children, so it comes as no surprise to me.  As of today, she had not started this longtime dream.

Since I was sitting by this beautiful scenic pond as we were talking, we both realized that little gold fish have their growth constricted by staying in small little bowls.  Have you ever seen a gold fish in a large outdoor pond? When they are placed in a large garden pond they become HUGH!

I could hardly believe my eyes when I first saw one in this environment.  It occurred to us what a great metaphor this could be for our lives.  We keep ourselves small by living in small, ‘fish bowl’ environments.

While moving to larger environments and following our dreams can seem scary and challenging, this is really what makes life worth living.  Moving into larger environments so to speak can cause us to grow, or at least allow for the possibility.

It is never too late, as long as you have breath in your body, to jump out of that little pond, and swim toward new horizons.  I am so happy to report that by the time we ended the conversation, my beautiful aunt said that she was so inspired that she was going to pull out her bag of writings and inspirational notes she had written and kept over the years and begin pulling together her project.

Virtually everyone has fears and limiting beliefs in different areas of their life.  Developing confidence can begin with the intention to do so at any age.

When you make up your mind to get out of the small pond and into a large lake or ocean, you will have room enough as the saying goes to ‘set your sails and move in the directions of your dreams!
