Self-Esteem: This IS Your Life NOW!
Self-esteem can drive the direction of your life. How you see yourself affects every aspect of your experience along your life's journey. Self-esteem is the sense of value or self-worth that you feel.
While I have some memories in my childhood about humility being associated with putting myself down, I no longer believe that rejecting or belittling myself has anything at all to do with humility. However, if you think of yourself as small, you will live a small life and you will come to see our great Universe as limited.
"Each of us literally chooses, by his way of attending to things, what sort of universe he shall appear to himself to inhabit." William James
I love the writings of William James, who was a well-known, visionary psychologist who also had a MD degree. He passed away near the beginning of the last century. I have a different definition of self-esteem than he did though.
I can tell you now that there is no absolute consensus on the definition of self-esteem. Dr. James’ definition is related to how most people define their sense of self, meaning most people think that their worth is directly proportional to their ability to perform in areas that are deemed significant.
For example, if money is the valued thing, then the self-esteem goes up when the money goes up and down when the bank account drops. I used to feel this way to a degree. Years ago, my self-esteem was quite low and it would rise slightly with achievement, but it was definitely never high or healthy - even when I achieved 'big' goals.
You see, I used to have many limiting and self-sabotaging beliefs - like believing humility was equal to putting myself down. The bottom line is, I discovered that as long as my self-esteem was tied to an outside or external source, I could never feel secure.
When I discovered my inner Spiritual Self and power, I turned the corner and now I not only like myself, I love myself. Therefore, I can now begin to relate better to others, and put much of the ego self-centered behavior aside.
You will love others the way you love yourself, which unfortunately, is why there is so much unpleasant (to say the least) behavior going on in the world today. We create the world we live in by the way we think.
If you want a better tomorrow, you have to start thinking healthier thoughts about yourself and the world around you today. Now is the time. If you keep thinking the same thoughts or feeling unsatisfied today, you will have the same quality of life experiences tomorrow.
Healthy self-esteem is an inside job and you have the power NOW to begin to discover it.

That is so true that building self-esteem is an inside job and you have the POWER right now to start your journey. Especially true at this moment during the Olympic Games. You can have so much inspiration, motivation just by turning the TV on and watch those athletes and think about how much energy and time they had to sacrifice to be among the best.
