Self-Esteem: How Your Negative Self-Talk is Hurting Your Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is about self-respect and acceptance of your unique abilities.  It concerns issues of value, or self-worth.  We all have a reason for being here at this time and there really are no accidents.

As I look around me I see change happening on so many levels.  I read something the other day that a poll was done that showed how many people are desperate for a sense of inner peace.  We are living in turbulent times…on the ‘outside’ that is.

Your inner world is still under your own control.  The problem is, most people are unaware of this and their negative self-talk is their own worse enemy.  That voice in your head is not ‘the devil’ and you are not going crazy – unless you believe those lies!

Negative self-talk comes from the world of ego, and a wounded ego thrives on fear.  Notice I said wounded.  We all have and need to have an ego to function as a human being.  The ego serves a purpose to give you a sense of separation (actually an illusion) and individual identity.

Ego in Latin means ‘I’.  It’s just that it is the ‘false I’ instead of your true identity or your ‘True Self’. When the ego gets wounded, typically in early childhood, that ‘part of you’ the wounded child, gets stuck in a time warp and can cause havoc in your adult life.

If you believed you were not enough as a child because a parent yelled at you, that ‘voice’ can still fire off in your head. The truth is, you are a magnificent spiritual being, having a ‘human experience’.

It’s just that we get lost in the games of life and start believing more of what we see ‘out there’ than listening to our inner voice of Guidance.  One practical way of learning how to separate from the negative self-talk is to learn meditation.

Meditation is a hot topic in Neuroscience right now.  It has been shown to have many benefits.  A few would be; increased focus, clarity, lower blood pressure, stronger immune system, inner peace…you see the list is very powerful.

I have found it to be very helpful in managing negative self-talk for a few reasons. An important reason is you can slow down your mind and begin to notice as the OBSERVER, these voices of self-talk.  When you begin to do this, you can begin to realize that you ARE NOT your thoughts.

As you expand your understanding of how your mind works, and begin to make the connection between what you believe and how you experience life, you can begin to consciously create a life that is full of inner peace – regardless of the upheaval all around you.

The more peaceful and powerful you are, the greater impact can have on making your - no our world - a more peaceful place for us all.  If you do not go within, you will go without – get it?  Self-esteem is an inside job.
